The UnionBank SSS UMID ATM Pay Card is a government-issued card as well as a fully functional ATM card in one and qualified SSS members can get their pending UMIDs upgraded for free to this card. Because the card is linked to a UnionBank account, they can readily receive the SSS proceeds of their benefits, loans, and refunds.  In addition, the savings account does not require any maintaining balance. Users will also be able to enjoy fully-featured ATM transactions, as well as digital banking services and advanced features like financial goal setting and payment requests via the UnionBank Online app.

UnionBank will soon offer virtual asset exchange services directly from its app

Clients of UnionBank of the Philippines will soon be able to buy virtual asset exchange services like Bitcoin (BTC) through its mobile banking app without having to go through a third-party virtual asset wallet. That translates to more space on your phone as you need not have too many apps on it;  it also makes the buying and selling of BTC easier and more convenient.

WOW, THIS IS BIG NEWS! I was a Citibank customer for several decades and I am currently a Unionbank depositor. So this is big news for me as I never saw this coming. Citigroup is selling its entire consumer banking business to Unionbank of the Philippines.

What does this acquisition by Unionbank include?

This includes Citi’s credit card, personal loans, wealth management, and retail deposit businesses. The acquisition also includes Citi’s real estate interests in relation to Citibank Square in Eastwood, 3 full-service bank branches, 5 wealth centers, and 2 bank branch lites.

It won’t be long before a school for creative innovators and developers will rise in San Pedro, Laguna. Recently, Unionbank held a virtual groundbreaking ceremony for its Innovation Campus, a real estate property development that will support its innovation initiatives.

Unionbank began its digital journey 5 years ago. That digitalization proved especially advantageous during this pandemic as consumers and depositors shifted their transactions heavily to online. Unionbank President and CEO, Edwin Bautista, said the Innovation Campus is “a dream come true and a testament to the commitment of Management and the Board to innovation as a major strategic thrust”.

The COVID-19 pandemic spared no one. It affected even ultra high net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) in the Asian region. UHNWIs are individuals who usually have investible funds of about US$ 30 million.

UNHWIs are some of the wealthiest people in the world. In this class of people, you often will find people who are major decision-makers and whose investments can have a global impact. Unlike most of us who probably invest in term deposits or mutual funds, these UNHWIs often put their money in different baskets including property, equities, bonds, private equity, collectibles (like paintings), cryptocurrencies, and precious metals.

UnionBank President and CEO says that digitalization is moving them from resilience to renaissance

I used to have an EON account with Unionbank and for some time, it served me well. But when it became inactive as my transactions declined, I decided to close it. Still, I continued to hear only good stuff from other friends who were either UnionBank employees or customers.

UnionBank’s vision to transform into a digital, customer-focused bank is evident. In May, it was named ‘second most helpful bank in Asia-Pacific’ in the BankQuality Consumer Survey on Retail Banks conducted in April. When the pandemic hit and it was difficult to get to my usual banks, I began to see how Unionbank’s foresight to bring banking online was truly a blessing not just for them but for all of us.
