J.Co opens its 12th Philippine branch in Glorietta 2

Aside from being a very popular donut shop, J.Co is marked by another feature readily observed in the Philippines in practically all its branches – long queues!!! That is the mark of the popularity of this Indonesian-based donut and coffee chain operating throughout Southeast Asia with 125 branches in Indonesia, 12 in Malaysia, 4 in Singapore, and 2 in China.

Just recently, J.Co inaugurated its 12th branch in the Philippines – located at Glorietta 2 (for those old enough to remember, it is in the old location of National Book Store, right across SM Makati).

Occupying a spacious 236 square meter corner location, J.Co Glorietta is conveniently located in the heart of Ayala Center. All around its two store sides are ceiling-to-floor see-through glass walls since there are al fresco dining areas. This allows diners in the al fresco area to enjoy laid-back dining while enjoying the brightly lit, colorful and modern interiors of the store.

The taste of J.Co donuts appeals to me because they are not as sweet as other brands. My sweet tooth, over the years, has mellowed down and I avoid too much sugar intake so J.Co is really a compromise for me – allowing me to indulge my sweet tooth without the hard-core sugary taste.

To introduce some of the popular flavors of J.Co, the bloggers got a chance to be selected to play a trivia game. Together with emcee Sam YG of Boys Night Out and celebrities Gretchen Ho and Robi Domingo, bloggers whose names were drawn had a chance to pair up with Gretchen or Robi in playing several rounds of tic-tac-toe. As each team uncovered a square, they had to first correctly answer a trivia question before they could put either their X or O on the square. Even those of us in the audience who were not picked to join had fun trying to guess the donut variants.

The J.Co donuts have very interesting flavors but more than that, they are matched with quirky names as well. Just take a look at this sampling of their more popular variants: Alcapone, Oreology, Tiramisu, Avocado Di Caprio, Mr. Green Tea, Why Nut, Blue Berrymore, Don Mochino, Choco Caviar Chocolate, Crunchy Crunchy, and Crème La Fame. It’s actually fun trying to figure out from which celebrity or what object/place each name is derived from.

My all-time favorite and probably the company’s bestseller is the Alcapone donut. A bite reveals the generous spread of Belgian white chocolate on the inside with the donut topping filled with toasted almonds. Very creamy and almond milky.

This promo is only available from April 13 to May 31, 2012.

Make this Mother’s Day a special one for the Mom in your life.  These flowers won’t just wilt away. She’ll be able to look at it – and taste it as well.

Share Krispy Kreme Hearts this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day will be extra special for me and the family.

We received a box of Krispy Kreme and for once, they are NOT round but heart-shaped Valentine’s Treats. My box has the zigzag-shaped hearts but they have two more designs — scallops and a heart within a heart design. The doughnuts (topped with milk or white chocolate) may look different on the outside but inside, it’s the same favorite doughnut with its trademark melt-in-your-mouth dough.

These heart treats are only available for a limited time – only until February 14, 2011. So this weekend, head out to the nearest Krispy Kreme branch near you and get a box – make that two – and share Krispy Kreme hearts with your special someone or with the family.

The Green Iced Sting Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Limited edition Green Hornet doughnuts
A surprise was waiting for me today while I was having breakfast. A box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts was delivered to my home.
I did not get to try it immediately because I was already eating and had to leave soon after so it was only this afternoon that I got to sink my teeth into this green doughnut with white zigzags.
This line of Krispy Kreme doughnuts is inspired by the upcoming Green Hornet movie, which I also want to watch. When I bit into the doughnut, I realized that the green icing tasted exactly like bubblegum while the white zigzags gave the bubblegum a cool mint twist. Yummy!
This is a limited edition and will last only till February 13. Go try it and maybe buy some before you head out to watch the Green Hornet.

Krispy Kreme’s Ho-Ho-Holiday Doughnuts Are Here

This was the surprise that arrived today. Krispy Kreme‘s holiday doughnuts are out!!!
Kids really love the way Krispy Kreme celebrates events and special occasions because they come up with the most creative, yummy-looking doughnuts. My own kids love Krispy Kreme a lot.
There are three variants this year. First is Mr. Snowman. He was around last year too with his red and green scarves but they gave him a slightly new look this year. Next is the vanilla-frosted square-shaped doughnuts decked with green and red icing ribbons. They almost look like tiny presents. And third is the round-shaped doughnuts with vanilla frosting and green and red sprinkles.
My Christmas doughnuts came in a very simple but elegant-looking metal Krispy Kreme can in Christmas-y colors.
If you are still wondering what to give family and friends for Christmas, look no further. Your yummy present will look great packaged in a KK box like this one.
And yes, I had to hurriedly take pictures of the doughnuts before all my kids come home from school and devour them all. 🙂

“DOugh YOUR PART” on May 10: Go out and VOTE!

Just one week from now and the Philippines will hold its first automated elections.

Many citizens’ groups have joined hands to help the voting public. A big concern is teaching the public to vote in a different way from the old procedure of writing the candidates’ names on a ballot. Mock elections held in different parts of the country showed that so many still were not sure how to vote.

In an effort to do their share in spreading awareness of exactly HOW TO VOTE, Krispy Kreme has come out with an innovative, and fun, way to make voters comfortable with the new ballot. Beginning this Labor Day weekend, all Krispy Kreme customers will be asked to fill out their orders for doughnuts using this mock-up ballot. Mark Gamboa, Marketing Manager of Krispy Kreme, has this to say about the mock ballot, “We wanted to make it a fun learning experience for the voters. This will help them prepare for the real, automated voting system.”

And, from May 8 to May 10 only, limited edition Krispy Kreme Vote 2010 doughnuts will be available for sale.
I’m going to be one of those making a beeline for the Vote 2010 doughnuts this weekend. I suggest you get your family boxes before they run out. These will be great snacks to bring to the voting precincts as well. Sugar rush = high energy! Yes, I’ll need a lot of energy to get over these days running up to Election Day.
And oh…one more message from Krispy Kreme…
