Bearhugs for Baguio: A Project for Typhoon Pepeng’s Smallest Victims

In the aftermath of Typhoon Pepeng which devastated Northern Luzon, much of the relief efforts were concentrated on providing food, clothing and shelter for the displaced families. Recovery and rescue efforts filled most of the efforts in the hours right after Typhoon Pepeng passed over the area.

While all these are indeed needed for the basic survival of families, what has been largely forgotten or neglected was the state of mind of the youngest victims of this natural calamity — the children of Baguio, Benguet, Pangasinan and surrounding areas.

Help Krispy Kreme Raise Funds for Ondoy Victims

This is what makes me love Krispy Kreme even more! Not only are their doughnuts GOOD, the people behind KK have GOOD HEARTS as well.

One of the first things that Krispy Kreme did after Tropical Storm Ondoy flooded Metro Manila was to give away free doughnuts to typhoon victims and relief operation volunteers.

Now, YOU can help them give even more.

Tomorrow, October 11 (Sunday), Krispy Kreme will donate ALL sales from their Original Glazed Doughnut to the Ondoy victims. For every Original Glazed doughnut you buy, the sale will automatically go to Krispy Kreme’s relief fund which will be distributed to the Philippine National Red Cross Rizal Chapter and ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya.

So tomorrow, head on over to participating KK outlets, buy yourself and your family a box (or several boxes) of Original Glazed Doughnuts. You will not only enjoy KK’s most popular doughnut variety but you will also do your share in helping our kababayans.

Let’s Make Efren Penaflorida a CNN Hero

When Efren Penaflorida added me up on Twitter, I had no idea who he was. The name sounded familiar though, so I googled him. It turned out Efren was THE guy I had read about in an article (I cannot even remember where) who has been making it his mission to raise the level of education of streetkids by actually bringing the school to the streets.

CNN has launched a search for its 2009 CNN Hero and Efren is one of the finalists after CNN whittled down the list from 9,000 submissions from over 100 countries. Read HERE how CNN made their finalist selection. The 10 finalists already received $25,000 each in recognition of their work. The Top CNN Hero will get an additional $100,000.
