Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser was a household name in our family for many, many years as I was growing up. It was also what the derma prescribed for me as well as for my kids. I had fairly sensitive skin; they had asthma and sometimes, this would be accompanied by skin eczema.
Not many products make it to the level of what is called cult favorites — those that stand the test of time, are often recommended by professionals, and are passed down from generation to generation. Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is one of the few products in this category. Up to now, one of my daughters uses the Cetaphil brand as part of her skincare regimen. I do too!
For those who may not know it, Cetaphil’s signature product has been around since 1947 in response to a need for gentle but effective skin cleansing. It was primarily used within the medical community at first but eventually spread by word of mouth beyond it to become a bestseller and household name up to this time.
Cetaphil’s gentle but effective formulation has remained basically the same for the past 75 years but as science progresses, even classics like Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser need an update and it is here!
One important improvement I noticed is that the reformulated Cetaphil is already paraben-free. Gone too is the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate ingredient, found in many cosmetics but can be a skin or eye irritant. That means less chemicals being absorbed by the body. In its place, the improved Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser now includes Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), which helps strengthen the skin barrier, improve tone and soothe skin; Panthenol (Vitamin B5), which helps increase skin’s hydration while decreasing overall water loss for a more supple appearance and to soothe skin sensitivity; and Glycerin, which draws water into the skin to increase and maintain hydration levels.
Together, these new ingredients help address skin dryness, irritation, roughness, tightness, and weakened skin barrier. This is so important to me as I am already in the second half of life and I need to be conscious about aging effects on my skin. What I love about Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is that, unlike facial soaps, it does not remove natural oils on my face. I placed some of the Cetaphil on my finger and it still looks and feels like the original one that I have been using, except that I know now that its reformulation means even gentler (and healthier) skin cleansing.
Even if my skin now tends more towards being dry, I still wash my face twice a day with Cetaphil: once in the morning and just before bedtime. I apply a generous amount of it, rub thoroughly with just my fingers (if you use a hand towel, rub gently only). Then I rinse it off with plain water. Follow it up with a moisturizer to keep skin supple and smooth all day and night (Cetaphil has a Moisturizing Lotion for body and face too!).
Cetaphil is also rolling out a brand new look for its products, including an updated logo and modern packaging with color-coding for specific skin types.
The improved Cetaphil products are already available at Watsons and Mercury Drug stores. It is also now available in the flagship stores of Cetaphil in Shopee and Lazada as well as the Watsons online store.
