Bring the family to Meralco’s Liwanag Park this Christmas season

Looking for some place to bring the family this Christmas aside from the malls? Check out Liwanag Park, Meralco’s annual Maliwanag ang Pasko tradition on the grounds of Meralco’s head office in Ortigas. The lighting up of the park fronting the main building has been an annual tradition for years and a popular Christmas destination for families and tourists in Metro Manila.

Gracing the lighting of the Liwanag Park were Meralco Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, along with other Meralco executives, who pushed the button signaling the park’s opening.

Part of the lighting ceremony was the presentation to Department of Education Secretary, Bro. Armin Luistro, of a donation of 2,000 solar lamps from Meralco employees, partners, and customers. The lamps are the result of One Meralco Foundation’s “One Child, One Lamp” campaign to raise funds so that solar lamps could be given to public schools in mountain and island villages without electricity.

What you can expect to experience at Liwanag Park

Liwanag Park is a sprawling area in front of Meralco’s main building and is divided into different sections. Among its main features are Christmas figures and a giant tableau featuring the Nativity scene all made of scrap copper wires (this tableau featuring Mama Mary, St. Joseph and baby Jesus is a staple even from past Meralco Christmas lighting displays).

Visitors may also ride a miniature train on the grounds. Inside the circle of the train’s track is a giant Christmas tree decorated with lanters made from old electric meter covers and LED lights. How creative! (Just one note: Parents, just a word of caution not to let small kids ride alone. Hold your children well because the train ride is a bit fast and bumpy).

The park also houses a night bazaar. Visitors can shop for clothes, gift items, food items and more. The proceeds of this night bazaar goes to One Meralco Foundation’s “One Child, One Lamp” campaign.

The Meralco Liwanag Park is open DAILY from 4pm to 10pm until January 10, 2016. Bring the families over!!!
